The Royal Mencap Society has launched a new national campaign: ‘Here I Am’ to challenge people’s perceptions of learning disability. Recent research carried out by Ipsos found that:
- Just one third of people would feel comfortable sat next to someone with a mild learning disability, or during a show or concert.
- Out of more than 2,000 people surveyed, 27 per cent thought that disability was a form of mental illness.
- Six per cent said they would feel uncomfortable using the same swimming pool as someone with a more severe learning disability.
