NHS Sheffield Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) Accountable Officer Ian Atkinson has announced he is leaving his role at the end of March 2015.

Ian was appointed as the CCG Accountable Officer in July 2012 after holding the Interim Chief Executive post of the previous commissioning organisation, NHS Sheffield PCT. 

After a 30 year career in healthcare which started as a clinician in Sheffield, Ian now plans to concentrate on developing his own business.

Ian Atkinson said “It’s never an easy decision to leave a successful organisation; but I felt that with the CCG in the strong position it is, recognised as a high performing and innovative CCG, with clear plans for responding to the Five Year Forward View and a strong financial position, that now was as good a time as any.

“I’m very proud of everything that we have achieved together as a CCG, which is testament to the strong and capable team we have in place. I have really enjoyed working with our GPs in particular, and I’ve seen real benefits to our approach as a commissioner through the clinical insight which is now a normal part of the way the CCG goes about its work.”

Dr Tim Moorhead, Chair of NHS Sheffield CCG said, “On behalf of the whole of the Governing Body and the wider CCG, we will obviously miss Ian but wish him well going forward and thank him for his hard work and commitment to the CCG, the previous Primary Care Trust and the Sheffield Health system over the last seven years.”
