Keeping patients safe in Sheffield

It can be a difficult topic to talk about, but the safeguarding team at NHS Sheffield CCG undertake the important task of ensuring standards of care are met throughout the group and the wider health community.

They have had another busy year continuing to advise colleagues and safeguarding boards around child & adult protection, whilst also expanding their support in the areas of domestic abuse, Prevent (safeguarding people and communities from the threat of terrorism), modern slavery and human trafficking.

The team have also trained lots of staff, running two hugely successful events with over 400 colleagues from GP practices attending. They’ve provided advice and support to manage cases, both within the organisation and outside – even working with banks.

Designated Safeguarding Professional Rachel Welton said: “Safeguarding children and adults is everybody’s business; to ensure we protect the vulnerable people in our society. And this year, we’ve ensured that more and more people across health and social care have been trained to spot the signs and provide support quickly and effectively.

“Looking to 2018, we wish everyone a happy Christmas or holiday and look forward to welcoming anyone to ‘Safeguarding Towers’ for a chat or to advise if anyone has a concern.”
