Learning For You

When we feel in control of our own health and are able to participate in our local community, we feel a greater sense of wellbeing. In Sheffield we have a wealth of support and opportunities that can help you learn and get involved.

Expert Patients Programme

The Expert Patients Programme (EPP) is a short course designed for people who live with long-term health conditions such as diabetes, heart and lung disease, depression and multiple sclerosis. Courses are delivered by people who themselves have a health diagnosis and so understand about day to day challenges and the emotional impact of living with pain, anxiety and tiredness. For more information contact Janie Vendeiro on 0114 293 0687 or email janie.vendeiro@sheffield.gcsx.gov.uk

Introduction to Community Development in Health

The Introduction to Community Development in Health Course (ICDH) is for people who are interested in learning how their experience of health and wellbeing can influence and change their local community. It encourages people to make small changes to their own health and that of their families and then seek out local services and use them appropriately. For more information, contact Mai Mustaphanin on 0114 293 0682 or email mai.mustaphanin@sheffield.gcsx.gov.uk

Health Trainers

Health Trainers are people who have been recruited from within local communities. They have been trained to work with individuals on a one-to-one basis to help improve health and wellbeing. They are not personal trainers or physical instructors and do not give medical advice but do offer support, guidance and encouragement. For more information, contact Aziz Muthana on 0114 2930686 or email aziz.muthana@sheffield.gcsx.gov.uk

Community Health Champions

Sheffield Community Health Champions has developed an approach to support individuals to use their knowledge and motivation to improve the health and well-being of their own communities. They are:

  • Volunteers
  • Recruited from Sheffield’s least healthy communities
  • Passionate about improving the health of their communities
  • People with the skills and understanding of health and community engagement they need to make a positive difference
