Prescriptions and medication

The repeat prescription order line is now closed

There are a number of ways to order your repeat medication:

*These may not all be available at your local GP practice or pharmacy*

  • Ordering digitally through an ‘app’ or by email
  • By using the right-hand side of your paper prescription, marking your requested item(s) and delivering it to your surgery
  • By telephoning your surgery
  • Through your pharmacy

Ordering your repeat medication digitally

If you have a smart phone or access to the internet, there are other ways of ordering your repeat medication digitally.  These apps connect to your patient medical record: NHS App, SystmOnline and Patient Access.

To register with the NHS App:

Owned and run by the NHS, the NHS App is a simple and secure way to access a range of NHS services on your smartphone or tablet. You can see your available medicines, request a new repeat prescription and choose a pharmacy for your prescriptions to be sent to on the app. Find out more about how the NHS app can help you at www.youtube.com/watch?v=421wy0ND9Ls.

For instructions on how to download and use the NHS App, please visit this website: www.nhs.uk/nhs-app/nhs-app-help-and-support/

To register with your surgery app (SystmOnline or Patient Access):

Depending on which medical record system your GP practices uses, you’ll be able to register for either SystmOnline or Patient Access.

SystmOnline is a website and app which allows patients to view their electronic medical record as well as providing other features such as appointment management or ordering repeat prescriptions.

Patient Access connects you to local health services and enables you to book GP appointments, order repeat prescriptions and discover local health services via your mobile or home computer.

To access these apps, you will need to make a registration request with your GP surgery online.  The simplest way to start the request is to go to your surgery website and locate the option to register with the surgery online.

Pharmacy apps

There are some pharmacy apps that can also support you to order your repeat medication.  Please speak to your local community pharmacy for details.

Offline options

We know that not everyone will have access to the internet, a smart phone or be able to use apps. Please contact your surgery if you can only order your repeat medication by using the telephone so they can help you with an ordering method that works for you.

Electronic Repeat Dispensing

If you are stable on regular medicines you may be suitable for Electronic Repeat Dispensing.  To find out more about this go to:

Difficulties getting hold of medicines?

From time to time certain medicines can be difficult to get hold from local community pharmacies. Also, different pharmacies use different wholesalers for their medicine supplies and so we recommend that if you are having difficulties in seeking supplies from your usual pharmacy that you ring round other community pharmacies in your local area.
