There is an expectation that around 600-1,000 people in Sheffield should be in scope of a Personal Health Budget by 2021. Sheffield CCG is not restricted to this level; however, such levels of offerings will be viewed as a significant shift towards supporting personalisation in Sheffield.

Individuals who may benefit from, or want, a personal health budget will vary from area to area as people’s experiences with local services and the range of support options available locally will impact on whether someone wants to take up a personal health budget.

CCGs are expected to take a controlled staged approach to the roll out to avoid destabilisation of the current system, starting small and focusing on the most complex cohorts’ of patients.  The Offer will include the further roll-out of the existing areas / services we offer Personal Health Budgets to ensure better up take.

These plans will be put in place through existing target groups / services. Increasing Personal Health Budget uptake figures and measuring progress will be captured to demonstrate improved outcomes and reduced inequality.

Expansion of Personal Health Budgets and increased personalisation is dependent upon all partners engaging to ensure we can deliver the programme in Sheffield.

The planned expansion will be a staged over the next 5 years. Consultation on the local Offer will help us to determine the priority areas for the future in 2017-18.

2016/17 will be a period of consultation on our ambitions. Implementation plans with timescales will be set out in the refreshed local Offer in 2017-18.

We will work with providers as the expansion will be dependent upon the freeing up of existing resources to fund budgets from contracts.
