Request/ Response

I am writing on behalf of [redacted] to request information about mental health services for people with Parkinson’s in NHS Sheffield CCG.

Please could you answer the following questions about your CCG’s approach? Many thanks in advance.

Group 1

 1. Has your Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) commissioned an Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) long term conditions service?Yes, we have commissioned 10 long term conditions service (LTC (long term conditions)) pathways.

2. If yes, is this service open to people with Parkinson’s experiencing anxiety and/or depression?

Health Education England developed a national curriculum to develop the workforce in IAPT-LTC, this does not include neurological conditions. However, the Sheffield IAPT-LTC (Health and Wellbeing Service) offers a number of courses aimed at helping people manage their long-term condition, anxiety and or depression such as "Living Well with a Long-Term Condition, Living Well with Pain, Living well with Fatigue, Mindfulness for Health (based on Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction) and a health anxiety course (which can address high levels of worry and anxiety related to living well with a long-term condition). These courses are not condition specific and people can book themselves on to these courses online or by ringing the IAPT service directly.

Group 2

3. Does your CCG commission or provide a Parkinson’s or neurological conditions multi-disciplinary team? (please specify which)

If yes, A) does this team include a psychologist or psychiatrist? or

B) does the Parkinson’s multi-disciplinary team have dedicated sessional time from psychology and or psychiatry? Or

C) are these provided as standalone services?

We commission neurological services from Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (STH) but specific details of staffing and service delivery would need to be provided by the trust. STH can be contacted via – foi@sth.nhs.uk.

Group 3

5. Does your CCG commission an integrated mental and physical health service for people with neurological conditions?

We commission neurological services from Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust but specific details of staffing and service delivery would need to be provided by the trust.

6. Does your CCG commission an integrated mental and physical health service for people with long term health conditions

As stated in question 1 above, we have commissioned 10 long term condition pathways as part of IAPT Health and Wellbeing Service. These pathways are embedded into our local physical health acute hospital site.  In addition, Core IAPT is integrated into our Primary Care offer, by being based and working within GP practices.
