We are pleased to respond to your request for information and our response is set out below:

I am writing to you under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 to request the following information from you. 

a). For the period 1st January 2018 to 31st December 2018 (or the most recent 12 month period available), the number of patients diagnosed with genetic haemochromatosis under the care of GP practices in your area.

NHS Sheffield CCG cannot answer this question exactly as stated because we can only identify this from inpatient spell coding not primary care records. From the information we do hold:

1. All our patients with a hospital spell in the period 1st January to 31st December 2018 coded with a diagnosis of genetic haemochromatosis was 178.

2. Our patients with a hospital spell in the period 1st January to 31st December 2018 coded with a NEW diagnosis of genetic haemochromatosis (i.e. no previous diagnosis since our records begin in April 2009) was 32.

3. Patients under the care of GP practices in our area with any hospital coded diagnosis of genetic haemochromatosis since our records began (April 2009) is 320.

b). The current number of GP practices in your area.

We have 79 GP contracts in Sheffield.  

c). The current number of practising GPs in your area. 

All Qualified Permanent GPs (excludes Registrars & Locums) Headcount total for all practices 445 (March 2019 data source NHS digital workforce).
