**Please note the engagement phase is now closed. The practices are now deciding whether they would like to continue to explore these proposals. If the proposals do continue then there will be further opportunities for people to have their say later this year.**
Sheffield has £37m available to transform general practice across the city.
This funding could be used to build up to five new health centres in Sheffield bringing together GP services and other services all under one roof.
The health centres are planned for three areas in the city.
These areas haven’t benefited from previous funding for GP buildings, so many of the practice sites are in need of modernisation. Some GP practices in these areas have shown an interest in potentially moving into the new buildings. This would mean that their current GP Practice site would close.
We have been asking patients’ about their views and ideas before making a decision.

Exact locations haven’t yet been agreed but there are preferred sites for each health centre.

City - A location has not yet been chosen for this health centre, but we are currently going through a rigorous progress to find suitable locations.
On behalf of GP practices, we are asking patients in the proposed ‘health centre’ areas to have their say on the suggested locations, accessibility, and services.
This is just the start of a conversation between the CCG, GP practices and their patients and will help us to shape our plans. If the plans progress further, there will be a further opportunity to have a say on detailed proposals later on this year.
Terry Hudsen, GP and Chair of NHS Sheffield CCG said, “This is fantastic news for the city and could see more than 100,000 patients benefiting from modern health premises, tackling health inequalities in the city.
“I would encourage anyone who lives in the areas where a new health centre is being considered to have their say as it is important that we work with local communities to meet their specific community needs.
“One option will be to retain the status quo and not build the new health centres at all. We have been offered this funding by the government and it is a great opportunity for us to explore improving health care facilities for local people.”
GP Practices suggested plans to build these new health centres several years ago. NHS Sheffield CCG has been helping to develop those plans and bid for the funding required to potentially build them.
The funding has some conditions attached to it in order for us to use it.
Extensive work has taken place to identify suitable locations which has involved narrowing down 37 sites to 6 potential locations. Reasons why other sites have not been suitable have included:
We have teamed up with three local community partners in these areas who will speak to people in their communities face to face and feedback their views to the CCG.
As practices are so busy helping patients, we ask you to please not contact them about the plans.
Please speak to one of the community partners or contact our communications and engagement team on sheccg.comms@nhs.net if you require any further information regarding these proposals.
Our community partners held public meetings where people could find out more and ask questions about these plans.
The funding will also be used to improve and make more space in some existing GP practice facilities.
Nine practices from across the city are expected to receive investment for refurbishment and extension of their current premises.
The funding is part of a £1 billion boost to NHS capital spending from the government.
The Sheffield funding is part of £57.5m for South Yorkshire.
