Patients help choose a Non-Emergency Patient Transport Service provider for South Yorkshire

NHS organisations in Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield have asked potential providers how they would provide non-emergency patient transport services across South Yorkshire. We invited local people to help us to evaluate these potential providers.

We looked for people who had:

  • personal experience of receiving non-emergency Patient Transport Services within South Yorkshire
  • experience of navigating through the heath and/or social care system
  • a commitment to representing the needs of patients and the public
  • good communication skills and experience of thinking of services as a whole
  • basic computer usage skills. Access to a computer is desirable, but not required.

Individuals attended an initial training session before evaluating responses given by potential providers to patient related questions. This process has helped us to narrow down the amount of providers.

We will be announcing the provider of the new service in April 2017.
