Sheffield General Practice Nurses take home awards at regional ceremony

Sheffield General Practice Nurses take home awards at regional ceremony
22 March 2019

Becky accepting her awardThree Sheffield general practice nurses are celebrating after winning awards at a regional awards ceremony recognising nurses who work in GP practices.

Louise Bloxham, Becky Howden and Celia Sefton all won awards at the NHS England Yorkshire and the Humber Celebrating General Practice Nursing Awards on Thursday 21 March.

Louise from Page Hall Medical Centre won the rising star award, Becky from The Flowers Health Centre won the mentorship and preceptorship award and Celia, also from Page Hall Medical Centre, took home the long term conditions award.

The nurses were put forward for the regional awards after taking home prizes at the first ever Sheffield General Practice Nurse Awards earlier this year. The Sheffield awards were organised by NHS Sheffield Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), in partnership with the Sheffield Practice Nurse Forum, and celebrated the hard work and dedication of the general practices nurses and health care assistants in Sheffield.

Mandy Philbin, Chief Nurse at Sheffield CCG, said: “I am so proud of Louise, Becky and Celia. They were up against some tough competition so for all three to come away with awards is absolutely fantastic and testament to their hard work, enthusiasm and passion for nursing. Of the total six categories, three of them were won by Sheffield practice nurses which is just brilliant.

“General Practice Nurses are often the unsung heroes in the field of nursing and are often overlooked for their dedication and compassion that they show to individuals while ensuring that each patient remains at the centre of their consultations.

“We have some fantastic nurses and health care assistants working in practices all across Sheffield, they are an integral part of the primary care team and through these awards we are now able to highlight the great work they do.”

The nurses collected their awards at an awards ceremony at the Horizon Conference Centre in Leeds.

Becky Howden, said: “I go to work every day and do the best I can for my patients but I don’t do it for recognition, I do it because I love my job and helping people. That said, it is really lovely to be given the award and I had such a great time at the event.

“I’d like to thank all my colleagues at my practice and at the CCG for supporting me to get this award.”

As well at the three winners, Katie Whitehead from The Hollies Medical Centre in Sheffield was shortlisted for an Innovation Award and received a certificate at the event.
