Stay prepared this bank holiday weekend
04 May 2018

Sheffield GPs are encouraging people to make sure their medicine cabinet is well-stocked to prepare for any minor illnesses or ailments that may strike over the bank holiday.

Dr Anthony Gore, GP and Clinical Director at NHS Sheffield Clinical Commissioning Group said: “To stay well, it’s important to make sure you have enough of any prescription medication to last over the bank holiday.

“You can also purchase a lot of medicines over the counter to help you treat things like headaches, colds and upset stomachs at home – getting lots of rest and being prepared with medicines will help you feel better sooner.”

If you do need healthcare over the long weekend, there are lots of options available in Sheffield.

Your local pharmacy is the best place to start as they can advise on common illnesses and the best ways to treat them. They can also help if you’ve ran out of prescription medication.

Many pharmacies are open over the holiday – opening times, along with all information about other services can be found here.

NHS 111 is also available for advice and information on which services are open. Calling 111 is free and available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Dr Gore said: “Please remember to keep A&E for serious and life-threatening illnesses only. If you’re unsure where to go, please ring 111 for advice. If you have a minor illness, please think ‘pharmacy first’.”
