The Crucible Theatre and NHS in Sheffield will be hosting a drop in clinic for anyone over the age of 18 who lives in the city to receive their first dose of the covid vaccine.

The theatre will be the first of  several roving clinics, organised by NHS Sheffield Clinical Commissioning Group that will be taking place across Sheffield over the next few weeks.

They will be delivered in partnership with St John Ambulance, who will provide trained volunteers to work alongside medical and nursing staff from Sheffield GP practices. Local volunteers will be involved to help run the clinics by acting as event marshals.

The drop ins will take place in areas of Sheffield where there has been lower take up of the vaccine and are easier to access for people who rely on public transport.

The Crucible will be opening its doors to the pop up clinic on Saturday 12 June between 9am and doors shut at 2pm. No appointments will be needed for people who want to come for their first dose of the Pfizer vaccine and people are advised to be there by 1.30pm.

Dan Bates, Chief Executive of Sheffield Theatres, said: “We are delighted to host the pop up vaccinations at the Crucible.  We have been in awe by the way in which Sheffield has rolled out the vaccinations across the city, from the large-scale at Sheffield Arena to the smaller centres in local communities and we are proud to play our part in this initiative.”

Alun Windle, Chief Nurse and COVID Lead at NHS Sheffield CCG, said: “We would like to thank Dan and his team for accepting our invitation to hold a clinic. 

“It is six months since our first resident was vaccinated and we are pleased that the majority of people in Sheffield, over 320,000, have been vaccinated but we cannot afford to forget the minority who have yet to come forward for their first vaccine, even though they have been eligible for a while. These clinics are primarily for them and by going to them we hope that they will come forward and have the vaccination. If we are to beat covid and keep Sheffield open we need to get everyone vaccinated.”

St John Ambulance volunteers will be coming back to Sheffield in late June and early July to provide more roving clinics.

“Our charity’s highly skilled vaccination volunteers have given more than 400,000 hours of their time, to date, and they are dedicated to making sure communities like Sheffield are safe as we continue to tackle the pandemic.

“We look forward to working closely with the medical teams and volunteers at The Crucible and as we return to the city later in the month, too.”
