Sheffield CCG appoints new lay members

Sheffield CCG appoints new lay members
20 November 2020

NHS Sheffield Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) has appointed two new lay members to its Governing Body.

The CCG Governing Body is responsible for NHS clinical commissioning decisions across Sheffield. They meet formally once a month and are a mixture of NHS clinicians, experienced NHS managers and lay members.

The CCG has welcomed new lay member Judi Thorley and re-appointed current lay member, Professor Mark Gamsu.

Judi is a registered nurse with a background in learning disability and general adult nursing, with over 34 years’ experience working within the NHS. Judi has worked in senior clinical and strategic leadership roles and for the 5 years prior to retiring from the NHS fulltime, Judi held the role of chief nurse and executive director of quality and safeguarding within two Clinical Commissioning Groups.

Mark has worked for a range of community organisations as well as local government and the civil service. He established 'Altogether Better’, an award winning national health champions programme that continues to flourish. He chairs the CCG’s Strategic Patient Engagement, Experience and Equality Committee (SPEEEC) which supports the CCG improve the way it consults, collaborates and engages with people in Sheffield.

Dr Terry Hudsen, Chair of NHS Sheffield CCG, said: “We are delighted to welcome Judi and welcome back Mark to the Governing body. They both bring a range of knowledge and experience to the roles.

“Judi is passionate about fair and equal access to health and social care for all and has particular experience and skills relating to quality in healthcare, person-centred care and inequalities. And Mark is particularly interested in the way the CCG can help general practice and the voluntary sector work together better in the more disadvantaged parts of the city.

“They’ll both be a great asset to the team.”

Judi and Mark’s terms start in January 2021. Mark will continue to chair SPEEEC and Judi will be responsible for chairing the Quality Assurance Committee.
