Urgent Care Services Review

hallamshire the arts tower and st pauls

It was a challenging winter for urgent care services across England including Sheffield. The whole Sheffield health and care system continues to work together to ensure Sheffield people receive the best possible care. However to ensure that we deliver an urgent care system that can cope well with future demand we need to look at every part of the current system.

The urgent care system must be able to meet demand while remaining clinically effective, patient focused and safe. In order to address these issues, a review of citywide urgent care services was undertaken through formal engagement with patients, public, clinicians and other key stakeholders, including existing service providers.

This review and engagement sought to understand what local people want when making use of urgent care services, to test out a number of key principles and to assess options for improvement within existing resources.

As part of the review we held public engagement events, carried out a patient survey, worked with Patient Opinion to collect feedback, and also with our ‘Involve Me’ network.

The review took place between May and August 2015.

You can read our full engagement report here.

In December 2015, we asked HealthWatch Sheffield to carry out a survey of patients using urgent care services across the City. The aim of this survey was to address some gaps in knowledge that we had identified following the Urgent Care Services Review. A report of the findings can be found here.

The review will took place between May and August 2015. Two public meetings have already been held in June and two more are planned for July and August:

  • Tuesday 21 July 2015 1:30pm – 3pm
  • Wednesday 22 July 6 - 7.30pm
