Freedom of Information Act 2000 – Request for Information

We are pleased to respond to your request for information and our response is set out below:

Request

As a matter of urgency I wonder whether you could send me Sheffield CCG's position statement on Pathological Demand Avoidance please.

Response

Sheffield CCG commissions a range of services, and work in partnership with NHS England to commission services aimed at meeting the needs of people who may be described as having autistic spectrum condition. We do not have position statements on every health condition, as a Clinical Commissioning Group, but follow advice as outlined in the NHS Long Term Plan about what services we commission.  We expect our providers as clinical experts in their fields to deliver evidenced based practice, and follow guidance where appropriate as published by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE).

If you require further information please contact Sheffield Children’s Hospital at scn-tr.schfoi@nhs.net or Sheffield City Council by completing an online request form here: https://www.sheffield.gov.uk/home/your-city-council/freedom-of-information-request.html or you can write to:

They have confirmed they do not undertake assessments for PDA as it is only recognised as part of the autistic spectrum. They would do an ASD assessment and may say aspects of their presentation were in keeping with a demand avoidant profile but would not give PDA as a standalone diagnosis.
