Attempted fraud - to be aware
08 August 2016

NHS Wigan Borough CCG have have been informed that a patient at one of the Wigan practices has been the victim of an attempted fraud. A man rang their landline saying he was from ‘Nutrahealth’ or something similar (this may or may not be a genuine company and it may or may not have been them calling).  The caller appeared to have details about their medical record and what drugs they take – but sought more information/clarification of medical details. They asked for the patient's card details to pay for more to be delivered to them and tried to discover if the house would be empty the following day.

Research online suggests that this is a scam being tried all over the country by this person/group. It appears to be targeted mainly at elderly people. The CCG has reported the incident on the national fraud website, but if other CCGs and/or trusts could put a warning out to patients in whatever way you can that would be helpful in protecting our patients from such frauds.
