It is a fund within the South Yorkshire Community Foundation, a registered charity whose goal is to improve the lives of local people. SToRMS’ Mission is to reduce suicides, particularly in young people, by facilitating widespread open discussions about suicide, promoting mental well-being and emotional resilience from an early age, challenging gender stereotypes that prevent men from accessing help and highlighting the relationship between alcohol and mental wellbeing. The Zero Suicide Alliance is concerned with improving support for people contemplating suicide by raising awareness of and promoting FREE suicide prevention training which is accessible to all. The aims of this training are to: enable people to identify when someone is displaying suicidal thoughts/behaviour, to be able to speak out in a supportive manner, and to enable them to signpost the individual to the correct services or support.
The online training takes 20 minutes and can be accessed here.
A taught 2 hour suicide prevention awareness training package has also been developed as part of the local action plan. For more information, please contact Joanna Rutter, Health Improvement Principal on 0114 3054656 or via email on Joanna.rutter1@nhs.net
