Freedom of Information Act 2000 – Request for Information
We are pleased to respond to your request for information and our response is set out below:
Request/ Response
1) Please state how much you have spent in (i) 2017-18 and (ii) 2018-19 on sessions of cognitive behavioural therapy for your patients.
The CCG does not hold the amount of money that is spent on cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) specifically. CBT is one of a number of interventions provided by our main NHS provider across a range of mental health services. In addition sessions of varying therapy modalities and services are offered by our voluntary sector providers, but these are not broken down into numbers of sessions for specific interventions. We therefore cannot give a figure for what is spent on CBT as a standalone figure.
2) In 2018-19 please state what different types of psychological problems were addressed by sessions of cognitive behavioural therapy.
As the commissioner of services, overall, we do not specify or record the types of psychological problems that are addressed, by which specific psychologicaL intervention, as this is a clinical decision made by the assessing clinicians within our provider organisations.
However, as a broad indication, we do commission a range of psychiatric and psychological services for people with common mental illnesses, such as anxiety and depression, and also for more severe or specialist mental illness, such as psychosis, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, trauma, as nationally required under the NHS Long term Plan for Mental Health. https://www.longtermplan.nhs.uk/areas-of-work/mental-health/ .
We commission a range of services to meet a variety of mental health needs and conditions, for example, Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT); Early Intervention in Psychosis Service, Community Mental Health Teams, Home Treatment Team; Specialist Psychotherapy, etc.
3) In 2018-19 how many patients suffering from anxiety were treated for anxiety with sessions of cognitive behavioural therapy that were funded by your CCG?
We do not hold this information broken down into the specific detail of what conditions receive which psychological interventions.
